As reported earlier, Nas has gone and entitled his forthcoming album N***** which, surprisingly enough has already sparked controversy. The album, which is to be released through Def Jam has already undergone one edit; from "N****R" to the current (and cryptic) "N*****" and has been decried by the likes of Al Sharpton and now fellow hip-hop artist 50 Cent. Never one to be shy about his feelings towards Nas, the rapper was quoted as saying this about the title:

"Nas sucks. It's nonsense man. That's a stupid name. It doesn't make sense. Why would he title it like that? He just wants basic conversation. Other than that there's nothing interesting in that."

This is understandable coming from a the man who already has had some choice words for Nas. 50 is just one of the first in a mile long queue of opinions on such a polarizing topic, among those the always reserved Reverend Al Sharpton had this to say:

"Again, I'm opposed to anybody using the term," Sharpton, who has called for total abolishment of word, said on the red carpet. "We're in an age where they are hanging nooses, they're locking our kids up in Jena and Florida. We do not need to be degrading ourselves. We get degraded enough. I think we need artists to lift us up, not lock us down."

It's obvious that 50 Cent is over when he gets more pub. for talking shit about people then actually making good music and selling records. His next album should be titled "Whiner".

why does 50 have to be a 'whiner' because he opposes the use of the word n---er? you must be white or a black person who does not know his history and the pain and suffering that blacks had to go through. ignorance is over ruling the world.

I think these reactions are exactly what Nas was predicting and anticipating. Of course i do not know exactly what Nas was thinking, but for artist whose last album was titled "hip hop is dead," i may know where he intentions lie. Nas may be making a point that N***** is just used to call attention to a subject and no real relevance to hip hop. It is people like 50 Cent, who use the term frivolously and unnecessarily, who Nas could be targeting. Nas' point can be epitomized by the oblivious 50 Cent's reaction, "It'''s nonsense man... It doesn'''t make sense. Why would he title it like that? He just wants basic conversation. Other than that there'''s nothing interesting in that.''"

I know this an old topic but i wanted to point out to anyone who cares that 50 uses that word constantly, not only in reference to people, but also when he refers to the people he's going to shoot.

The point of the title is to create a dialogue in the Hip Hop community about race relations, not to disrespect anyone. That's why Al Sharpton is never going to be president, he misses the point.

I like the title. Black culture has tried to reclaim the N word, from being a message of hate to a positive label of identity. This hasn't worked, and it can't. Changing how it's used today can't erase the pain it caused yesterday.

Today whites can't use the N word, can't even say it in discussion. It carries that much stigma, and it should. It will be a good day for equality when everyone, blacks included, is made to feel the same way.

It's a Nas album. Meaning that there is most likely an interesting, and intellectual side to the title. Think people. The rev. needs to tell little wayne to stop talking about what he's talking about. 50 just wants us to be supid so we will by more stupid records.
