It's true. British indie label 4AD is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and for that we the music listening community remembers the debt of gratitude we owe it.
The company began releasing music in the 1980s, its roster dominated by goth rock legends like Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. It wasn't until 1987 when the Pixies released their debut, Come On Pilgrim, on the label that it began to receive international attention and acclaim.
Today, the label still features indie rock taste-makers like Deerhunter, The National, The Mountain Goats and St. Vincent. Still independent after all these years, 4AD is also part of the Beggars Group distribution label along with other respected indie stalwarts Matador, Rough Trade and XL. The first 30 years have been good on 4AD. Here's to 30 more. Let's drink.
Cheers.
