L.A. Today: Love of Diagrams

Love of Diagrams @ Spaceland, 2/26

It'''s probably something we say too much on this site, but oh well, I'''m going to say it again: go catch this new band at this small club before they get big and don'''t play such intimate venues anymore. Love of Diagrams are a two-girls-and-a-guy trio from Australia who'''ve recently signed to indie stalwart Matador. They just released a self-titled four song EP a few weeks ago, and their next full-length, Mosaic, shepherded in the studio by Mission of Burma'''s Bob Weston, will be out in April. The band plies a bouncy, bass-heavy early '''80s sound, even covering a song on the EP by Pylon, a criminally forgotten Athens band known more for being footnote friends of R.E.M. and The B-52s. Love of Diagrams was just tapped by indie superhero Ted Leo to serve as the opening act on his upcoming tour. Lending support here are Division Day as part of their February residency at Spaceland, the surprisingly listenable Radiohead worshipers Canon, and Irish rockers La Rocca, who will be performing an acoustic set.
