33 1/3 book proposals list revealed

By now you're undoubtedly familiar with the 33 1/3 series of books, each of which is devoted to a different classic (sometimes underrated) album. Well, if you ever wanted an inside look at how those tomes come into being, which books are proposed for the future, and which might get left behind, this is your big chance. The most recent round of 33 1/3 proposals, for the 2010/2011 batch of books, has recently ended, and the 33 1/3 blog has posted the entire list of albums suggested by the aspiring contributors, nearly 600 in all, including the multiple submissions of albums suggested by more than one writer. The whole thing makes for a pretty interesting snapshot of where the rock-crit mindset is at in terms of posterity (or just in terms of strategic vying for placement). It's unsurprising to note multiple suggestions for albums like Arcade Fire's Funeral and Metallica's Master of Puppets, but there are plenty of surprise apppearances on the list too, from the obscure-even-by-indie-standards Bill Fox to the utterly unremarkable (yeah, go ahead and make your case, we're listening...) emo of Say Anything. In the interest of full disclosure, this writer has submitted a proposal of his own, and while its details will remain undisclosed, there are some tears flowing in these parts for not having been the one to think of Supertramp's Crime of the Century.

Hah, this list makes me wish I'd gone through with writing the proposal I had in my head, cause my album definitely ain't on here. Good luck to all seven people who suggested Spiderland.
