The ceremony to induct new entrants into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is usually a snoozefest (with notable exceptions: hello, Blondie). But that might change in 2012, as Guns N’ Roses are among the acts just announced as nominees, and who knows what might happen if Axl Rose is allowed to attend the ceremony.
Other nominees include the Cure, Eric B. and Rakim, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Freddy King, the Beastie Boys, Laura Nyro, War, Donovan, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Small Faces/Faces. Anyone who released a single or album in 1986 or earlier was eligible to be a 2012 nominee.
Naturally, speculation is already underway that this might mark a reformation of Guns N’ Roses in its classic lineup. Don’t count on that happening, as we all know Rose is unpredictable (to say the least). But the amount of money he could make from burying the hatchet with Slash, Duff and Izzy would be considerable. The event will be staged at the rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum on April 14, 2012, in Cleveland, Ohio.
