BeatCrave has put together a list of their 10 best Oscar-nominated songs in spirit of the Academy Awards, which will be airing this Sunday. The list does provide a reminder that while most of the songs that do get nominated are usually trite and overly sentimental, there have been a good deal of gems in the 70-plus years this category has been around. So I guess there aren't any songs nominated before the 80s worth mentioning, then? How's about "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's or "Live and Let Die" from the Bond movie?
Here are some more:
"Nobody Does It Better" from The Spy Who Loved Me
"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" from Butch Cassidy
"Theme from Shaft"
"Wild Is the Wind" (which David Bowie famously covered)
"Lose Yourself" ???
Steve L
Yeah, Shaft and Lose Yourself are pretty essential. As is "Things Have Changed," which seems much more prescient after that Super Bowl Pepsi ad.
Aimee Mann wows again!
Aimee Mann performed live in concert at The Wiltern, Los Angeles, Friday 16th 2009.
What an incredible pitch perfect musician, singer, songwriter, entertainer and performer. Aimee Mann ranks as one of the best, she's on a par with Bob Dylan
