Young R.J.: "Cold War" f. Vice Verse (Video)

· by

Most hip-hop fans became acquainted with producer-rapper Young RJ in the early 2000s when he started producing for Detroit rap mainstay Slum Village. As the years passed, he built his resume by working fellow Motor City natives, such as Black Milk and Fat Ray, and acts outside of his hometown, including De La Soul. But now, it appears that RJ is looking to make a name for himself in the booth as he releases his latest single, "Cold War."

His style is very much in line with other producers who double as MCs, which means he rides the beat with precision but doesn't necessarily shine lyrically. That won't prove to be a problem for RJ as long as he's spitting over beats like this one, which flips Aretha Franklin's "Young, Gifted, and Black."
