"Tightrope" (Streaming)

Average Rating: 4.75

The Red Hot organization’s Dark Was the Night project is slowly trickling out online. The charity album has been curated by The National and is due for release on February 17 on 4AD. In the meantime, impatient fans can hear one track per day at the Dark Was the Night MySpace page, and today it’s the turn of the Brooklyn psychedelic folk-pop band Yeasayer.

The song, titled “Dark Was the Night,” follows in a similar vein to Yeasayer’s critically lauded All Hour Cymbals album. It’s the first new material from the band in a while, and it’s full of handclaps, a yearning vocal, and some twittering analog keyboard. The idea of leaking one track per day is certainly building anticipation for the record, and further curios from the record are sure to be previewed in the next few weeks. You can hear "Tightrope" for the rest of today (Jan. 21) here.
