Yeasayer

"Tightrope" (Live Video)

Average Rating: 4.75

Pitchfork’s series of Dark Was the Night videos continues with this performance by Yeasayer, who donated the song “Tightrope” to the charity album. The track is introduced by Dark Was the Night curators Aaron and Bryce Dessner from the National, and the guys from Yeasayer also chip in with a few thoughts of their own.

This performance of “Tightrope” is something of a departure for the band, and includes sampled chicken clucks, a banjo and some melodica. It’s got an alt. country flavor that is in marked contrast to the song’s previous incarnation, which can be sampled on this YouTube clip uploaded in October 2008.

Performance was so so. But I think this is probably my favorite song from the Dark Was the Night album. This or Knotty Pine.

The clucking threw me off in the beginning, but otherwise it was pretty good.

I prefer the original version, but this is a nice take on it.
