Yeah Yeah Yeahs: "Zero" (Stream)
When Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner was telling Spin that his band's new album, It's Blitz, was inspired by Joy Division and Giorgio Moroder, it kind of seemed like pre-release buzz-building. But dude wasn't joking--first single "Zero" has hit the net, and it's the disco-inspired epic that was promised.
There's big, swaying synths (that's the Joy Division influence), propulsive drums and air-tight rhythms (Moroder influence) and an enormous sing-along chorus. Apart from "Maps," it's the most readily accessible Yeah Yeahs Yeahs track, and one that might match "Maps"' cultural ubiquity.
It's Blitz is due out in April. [Stereogum]

I'm not quite sure what to make of this yet. I like it. I am vey curious to hear how it fits into the album.
I just generally love that YYY's are such an exciting band, and are so willing and prone to doing new things with their sound.

I love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs...but I'm disappointed. There are other ways to "change it up" that don't include turning to quasi-cheesy electro-dance (which is kind of a cliche in itself, right?).
this makes me want to punch people out of joy!

for me yeah yeah yeahs have allways been a good but not great band. i've listented to most of theyr work and i think this new tune confirms the fact that they are indeed a good band. a bit cliche twist of genre but it seems to be the direction of many artists these days.

i love it....especially because the yeah yeah yeahs love it....karen sounds happy....this band has yet to disappoint me...i think i'm so sick of people saying the same thing....it's like everyone describes their first listen the same way....."yyys are a good but not great band" " i think this sound is too cheesy and cliche" "i need a few more listens" SERIOUSLY.....this band knows what they are doing and true fans will support them.
