I wasn't sure how Yahzarah's single off her fantastic new album, The Ballad of Purple Saint James, would be translated into video form. Considering the way "Why Dontcha Call Me No More" blends the sounds of R&B, funk, and rock into a danceable track, she and the rest of the Foreign Exchange crew could have gone a number of ways with this one. Director Matt Koza opted to take us back to the 1980s, a decade I generally deplore when it comes to style and music. But he and the +FE collective do it in such a goofy, tongue-in-cheek fashion that I can't help digging it. Props go to whoever got Nicolay in that outrageous get-up, as he steals the show along with Phonte and that ridiculous Jheri curl wig.
The Ballad of Purple Saint James is in stores now.
