Hopefully the rumors of Women's demise have been greatly exaggerated, but if the Calgary-based quartet really have called it quits then "Bullfight," from a limited edition split 7" with Friendo, Cold Pumas and Fairs Ohs, might sadly be the last new release we ever hear from them.
"Bullfight" is the kind of elliptical, lurching blend of noise and melody that Women mastered on their sophomore effort Public Strain. Vaguely latin sounding guitar flourishes perhaps lend the song it's title, but it's the tension created by the band's gift for marrying pop hooks to artsy blasts of noise that best evokes the track's titular sport.
Check out "Bullfight" and all four tracks from the split 7"(out now on Faux Discx) below.
