Why?: "This Blackest Purse" (MP3)

It's hard to believe this track could come from a band that was ever described as "hip-hop," even if they straddled the boundary between that genre and indie rock. But Why? bandleader Yoni Wolf forecasted as much, calling his upcoming album Eskimo Snow "the least hip-hop out of anything I've ever been involved with." Piano competes with Wolf's vocals for your attention on "This Blackest Purse," a song that sounds like it should be performed by people who wear sweaters during their entire performance. Not very hip-hop, but very pleasant.

Eskimo Snow comes out September 22 on Anticon.

i interviewed yoni for a vegetarian mag called vegnews last year. when i asked how the hip hop community felt about veganism, he said he didn't know anyway in the hip hop community.
it was awkward.

But how does the vegan community feel about hip hop?

And now I'm REALLY excited for the new album.
