Whitney Houston

"Million Dollar Bill" (Freemasons Remix) (Stream)

"Million Dollar Bill" is the Alicia Keys-penned, Swizz Beats-produced first single from Whitney Houston's don't-call-it-a-comeback album, I Look to You. "Million Dollar Bill" is a pretty straightforward pop confection about feeling like a million dollars, that genuinely feels like it was written and recorded in 1983 (a credit, not a complaint). English producers Freemasons give the track a Europop treatment to make it club-ready, and the result is a little Girls Aloud-ish (another credit). Freemasons turn up the grand, epic synthlines to match Whitney's soaring vocals and adapt them for an glittery, electronic soundscape, as opposed to the original's classic disco-ish R&B. The fact that that works is as much a testament to the versatility of Whitney's voice as it is to the excellence of Freemasons' production.

damn whitney. not that it's a comeback... but i just got a house/r&b thrill like it was 1992 in a hair salon.

Wow, this is such a good track. I've never heard the original but now I'm afraid to because I don't think it could ever compare. Freemasons have done it again.

I'm liking this mix. So glad that Whitney has a new cd out. It's not better than Donna Summer's latest cd, Crayons, but we have new Whit tracks and that's a plus for fans and the music world.
