White Antelope is the nom-de-solo-rock of Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold, who apparently has a thing for animals who are svelte and speedy. Fleet Foxes are on something of a break right now, so Pecknold has been crazy busy posting solo songs, which thus far, have taken the form of covers. Pecknold's first song as White Antelope was a cover of Richard Thompson's "False Knight On The Road," which will appear as the b-side to Fleet Foxes' "Mykonos" single, and now Pecknold has taken on the great Bob Dylan, in the form of this cover of the Bob's "It Ain't Me Babe."
Pecknold piles on layers of his lush vocals over a simple acoustic guitar figure, all while remaining faithful to the Another Side of Bob Dylan standout. You can download the track here. You can stream the Richard Thompson track (and a guitar duet) at White Antelope's MySpace. Pecknold is reportedly working on a cover of Judie Sill's "Ridge Rider," and then plans to get to work on new White Antelope (and Fleet Foxes) material. [Stereogum]
