Pretty much the only thing known about “mystery band” Feathers is that they are not, in fact, the band of the same name who released an album on Devendra Banhart’s Gnomonsong label and who share members with J. Mascis side-project Witch. We think. We’re not completely sure of that either, although we’d find it hard to see the freak-folks dabbling in the four-on-the-floor house beats and layers of dream-pop synths we have here.
Any song about the summer is usually nostalgic in tone, and “Weird Summer” is no exception: the glimmering synths bouncing of each other and vocal styling resemble shades of classic New Order and Depeche Mode tracks from almost two decades ago. [Big Stereo]
