One of the dumber things I heard from the remaining Pinkerton-era Weezer fans was that the reason the band stunk was that they were signed to Geffen, who was apparently pressuring them to make horrible album after horrible album. Now that the band is signed to Epitaph, and have released "Memories" their new single from their Hurley LP, those people will probably be super-bummed. Because this is sub-Bowling for Soup "wasn't it crazy in the '90s" treacle that will make 14-year-olds grin from coast to coast. I think at this point being a Weezer fan is inexcusable, even if you qualify the hell out of it by saying you love the first two records.
Hurley is due out on Sept. 14 via Epitaph. [Stereogum]
