Weezer: Creep (Radiohead Cover) (Live in Portland)

In the cover story for Spin last month, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo talked about how he was going to invite his fans to bring instruments to the shows on the band’s Hootenanny Tour. I had thought he was full of shit; saying that was just a good way to get fans interested in the tour. Apparently, he wasn’t kidding at all.

On a recent stop in Portland, the band (sans drummer Patrick Wilson) played Radiohead’s “Creep” with a crowd full of guitarists, drummers, and clarinetists (WTF? Who would want to be caught in public with one of those things?). Cuomo doesn’t sing however, he leaves that up to the crowd and bassist Scott Shriner. [The Daily Swarm]

I love to see multiple Ukuleles in a crowd of guitars. And what looks to be a lute of some sort...

Awesome......great song to get everyone involved with and make it come out good even with a bunch of amateurs. This was really dope that the guys actually came through and let everyone jam with them.

that was freakin awesome! one of those things that makes you say "i wish i couldve been there!" not that i have any kind of musical talent whatsoever... but still, just to be there wouldve been amazing...

um, i think a clarinetist wouldn't mind being caught in public with a clarinet. or also, a sax player who doesn't want lug a sax around, but wants to play music. they could bring a soprano sax instead, but then you'd mock them for looking like kenny g.

or if, say, someone plays clarinet, tuba, bassoon, and piano, and pitched percussion, they might just pick the instrument that you can transport without a dolly or a team of professional movers.

seriously though, it makes me wonder how little people actually know about music when they knock a bona fide orchestral and jazz instrument.

Wow! Way to be a prick about clarinetists. I guess it's only COOL to play geetar these days?
