Nathan Williams has laid pretty low since his epic performance art piece "Hype Gives Birth, Devours Children," but of late Wavves have begun to resurface and make some 2010 noise. Aside from the expected European festival booking and promise of a full US tour, Williams and his band sat for a chat with The Drone, covering the infamous Primavera gig as well as the business of being an independent musician.
Not surprisingly for someone who got burned so bad, the vid presents Williams as image conscious and pretty attuned to the economics of "indie;" he describes being a working musician as comparable to working retail, and both his "it's just punk rock" attitude and well-calibrated return to our radar screen suggest Williams is indeed a savvy businessmen. What there's unfortunately little of in the interview is any mention of, y'know, music. Ideally he'll remember that, for all his business acumen and bonhomie, what got folks interested to begin with were the hummable (head) bangers on his debut; largely absent from the followup, let's hope they make a return appearance on LP number 3.
