Georgian Ernest Green, better known as Washed Out, is enjoying a stellar year. Not only has the spurious chillwave movement that he helped pioneer become kind of popular (albeit in an internet-blogging-way rather than an actual-sales way) but he’s also undertaken some pretty heft touring.
Green will join the lineup for the excellent FYF Fest on Sept. 4, for which you can still win tickets here, and he gives a sneak peek at his live performance with this video for the Life of Leisure track “Hold Out.” Unlike most artists who populate this genre, Washed Out shows look more like an invocation to party than an opportunity to stare at your shoes and wistfully recall the halcyon days of blocky ‘80s video game graphics, although this song is fairly typical of the John-Carpenter-soundtrack-gone-pop feel we’ve come to expect from chillwave artists.
