In this clip for Washed Out's "Belong," instead of just piecing together some old workout tape footage, director Blake Salzman goes the distance and records some new old workout tape footage, and then makes it weird and trippy all by himself. Unfortunately, it seems like Washed Out's very dreamy, worn sound would have been better-suited to some random fan putting together 3 minutes of tacky found footage.

I'd have never guessed there'd be a handful of "chillwave" records at the top of my best-of list going into '09. Hell, I didn't even know there was sucha thing.
I'm with Daba. This video is brilliant! I really don't get how you'd look at this and say "meh, it would be better if someone expended virtually no effort". That's such a rote dismissive indie-snit response :(
