Wale: "The Black & Gold"

With his Mixtape About Nothing follow-up due out tomorrow, Wale has dropped what's being labeled as the lead single from his latest project. "The Black & Gold" features the MC bouncing all over a production from Kosmik Kev and DJ Omega that's heavily steeped in a sample of Sam Sparro's 2008 dance hit of the same name. It's also highly reminiscent of when Wale caught some buzz for rapping over Justice on "W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E."

Where they differ, though, is that "The Black & Gold" is more drenched in funky drummer-rhythms and isn't quite as catchy. But Wale remains lyrically on point for the most part, dropping his typical sports references and chuckle-friendly similes. And as a slightly reformed-nerd, I appreciated the video game punch line of "Y'all Mario Brothers/I'm Metal Gear."

You can stream "The Black & Gold" at 2DopeBoyz. More About Nothing drops tomorrow.
