Wavves’ “So Bored” gives the current crop of lo-fi revivalists something legitimately timely to latch on to, resisting the seductive tug of pastiche with an anthemic La La La refrain. And latch on they have: Vivian Girls covered the tune several times at South By Southwest, amidst their like dozen show engagement. This video the Girls posted on their blog isn’t particularly high resolution – it looks like it was shot by someone in the bathroom line – but it does the job of documenting a scene that is either in it’s formative stages, or about to collapse under the anxiety of influence.
Here’s to hoping for a Vivian Girls reunion tour in 2010.
Lo-fi revivalists makes me wonder if there was ever a period when we didn't have lo-fi. Like, are they "revivalists" or "a new generation?" It's not like the original post-punks were "punk revivalists." My guess is that the term "post-lo-fi" actually makes people start to gag.
Am I the only one who thinks the VG's aren't good?

This is not very good at all. It's a crappy view with crappy sound. But this song is just badly sung and badly played. Vivian Girls are the most over-hyped fakery ever hoisted upon the lo-fi loving masses. They just don't got it. And their prettiness is over-played.

No, I think they shtinck too.
I don't think they're bad, I just think that they're a watered down version of what the riot grrls did better 15 years ago who can occasionally write a good song or two. But how they became seen as the saviors of girl rock I fail to comprehend.
