"Moped Girls" (Video)

Average Rating: 2.75

Vivian Girls currently have a limited edition single out on Rough Trade, comprised of two exclusive tracks, “Moped Girls” and “Death.” The songs were recorded on Platts Eyot Island in London, a recording studio that Deerhunter mainman Bradford Cox has used in the past.

This video for “Moped Girls” is short, sweet, and features singer Cassie Ramone with a paper bag over her head. The production is brighter and less reverb drenched than their debut album, and the song features some impressive vocal harmonies and a neat downer vibe that suits them a lot better than their sugary pop-punk tracks.

The single is available to order via Rough Trade’s U.K. website.

Is there anything coherent about this song? Boy do the Vivian Girls know how to market themselves. Who cares if the music is boring? They've got different colored eyes, bloody noses, ski masks, and KITTIES.

Is there anything interesting about ANY Vivian Girls song?

"Where Do You Run To" and "Tell The World" were kinda fun, but I've lost all hope since then. I've never seen a band hyped this much for two kinda fun songs.

Bring back L7!

All their ish sounds exactly the same to me. Loud choruses, out of tune guitars, over and over again. It was old by the 5th minute of listening to them for me. And I'm typically forgiving when it comes to these sort of bands.

It was always more about their conceit than their sound, but we ripped that apart rather brutally in December (I would have liked them a lot more if they had made the videos and NOT apologized):

What would Henry Darger say about "normal people"?

Yeah, I wrote that first post. It bothered me that they acted like working a 9 to 5 and eating at TGI Fridays, which is likely the best restaurant in your town if you don't live in a city of more than 100,000 people, somehow makes your life meaningless compared to theirs. It was so dumb.

That's not what bothered me. What bothered me is that the only time they actually said something remotely edgy, they backtracked immediately. Considering that their whole schtick is based on the Darger notion of fighting back from a corrupt world out to get them, and considering that the Darger drawings were so disturbing that I nearly vomited when I saw them, I would at least hope they'd be edgier in their words than in their music. The backtracking in that case may as well have been orchestrated by TGI Friday's copywriting team.
