Over the year's Vetiver's folk sound has moved by degrees toward something more accessible. And after their breezy covers album, Things From the Past, the first track from their forthcoming Sub Pop debut, Tight Knit, is downright poppy. "Everyday" is all sun-drenched bliss as Andy Cabic pines over someone that isn't there. Charming lines like "I always seem to make something out of nothing, but I can't make you appear" show a change in Cabic's approach. Where before this song might have been all heartache, there is more than a little hope infused into the song. It's certainly the most inviting sound we've heard from the band, and by embracing their pop sensibilities without losing their organic sound, Vetiver sound poised to break out with Tight Knit. If they've got Sub Pop behind them, and more great songs like this on the album, it's almost assured.
Still weird to me that these guys are on Sub Pop.
It was only a matter of time. I heard the fruit bats guy has been playing with them.
I had been listening to them since their self titled and its amazing to see how much they have progressed. I agree that it was only a matter of time before Sub Pop picked them up-surprised it didnt happen sooner.
