Vampire Weekend: "Ruby Soho" (Rancid Cover)

Vampire Weekend (well, at least frontman Ezra Koenig) has made no attempt to hide his love for '90s punk and ska. So in that sense, it's totally reasonable that when the band went onto BBC Radio One recently to record a session, they recorded a cover of Rancid's "Ruby Soho" during the part of the session where all bands record a cover. It's basically exactly like you'd expect this to be: It's all delicate, erudite, and less punky than the Rancid original. Though it could probably work on any of Vampire Weekend's albums without any problems. Go here to hear.

Absolutely tremendous insult to such a great song by one of the greatest punk bands - Rancid. It just makes me appreciate Rancid so much more. Vampire Weekend is joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LionHell

I can only handle little bits of Vampire Weekend. ...and I love Rancid, so I was bracing for a realy terrible cover.

But, this isn't as bad as some are making it out to be. It's just a chill cover. This is what Vampire Weekend does best: capturing that 80's Paul Simon-Afrobeat vibe. It's not for everybody, but it's not "an insult."
