Vampire Weekend appears to be taking a Lady Gaga-esque route to success with Contra, by saturating the media with performances, stories and other news. There’s no escaping the band at present, and so it proved on the late night TV schedules yesterday (Jan. 14), when they appeared on Craig Ferguson’s show.
“Cousins” seemed to be the song of choice from the album for theirpriorperformances, but they ditched that this time out and gave “Horchata” an airing instead. A string section and a cheap plastic Yamaha keyboard are stirred into the mix on this rendition of the song, which scored a “sensational” rating on Simon Reynolds’ guide to Contra.
That's a really nice performance, I thought. Although the host does raise an interesting question: What exactly makes a band "indie rockers" these days?
good point brandon, i really hate when people use the word indie to define a genre because of the vast differences between "indie" bands.
it was an awesome performance though. i hope to be able to catch them in toronto soon
