Under Byen: Samme Stof Som Stof (Live w/ Danish Radio Sinfonietta)
Under Byen sounded pretty damn epic to begin with, but it's a unimpeachable testament to scope that have easily folded a 42-piece classical orchestra into their mix without altering the character of their compositions dramatically. The Danish art band's new EP, Siamesisk, features songs from their excellent 2006 release Samme Stof Som Stof performed with the eighty-four extra hands of the formidable ensemble Danish Radio Sinfonietta. The switch from Mozart to melancholy post rock doesn't appear to have been so difficult. This live version of the last album's title track isn't neccessarily more bombastic than the original, with the wall of musicians at times falling completely subserviant to Henriette Sennenvaldt's hushed vocals, and the band's own trademark eerie saw playing (unless there's a saw section tucked in their somewhere). But it's the moments of climax that really benefit. Warm horns stand in for chilly electronics. String swells gain power from being doubled, tripled, quadrupled.

Under Byen

It’s not a dutch band, it’s a DANISH band. And Denmark is NOT the capitol of Amsterdam.
