U2: "Beautiful Day" and Interview (Live on the Late Show with David Letterman) (Video)

It’s night four of the U2-on-Letterman residency and I’m breaking out into a cold sweat wondering how I’m going to get by without them next week. Perhaps they should follow the Roots’ lead and become Letterman’s house band? Thursday night’s stint included an interview with the band, in which they talked about Bono’s lack of singing ability in the early days of the group (has much changed?) and Adam Clayton defended fellow bass player Sting against the Edge’s abuse in last night’s Top 10 segment.

The sales of No Line on the Horizon are looking good, so they momentarily stopped promoting it to break out “Beautiful Day” from All That You Can’t Leave Behind. The song is one of the rare recent U2 songs to become a surefire crowd pleaser, and Bono drops in references to the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and the Ramones. Perhaps they’ll conclude the residency tonight with a cover of “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
