So you saw Tyler, the Creator and Hodgy Beats performing "Sandwitches" -- a track that is essentially Odd Future's musical manifesto -- on Jimmy Fallon and thought: "Holy shit, that was one of the best late night performances I've seen." Well, that was just the practice round for the duo. They took the stage at the MTVU Woodie Awards last night and blew the damn roof off the place with the help of some dudes in animal/mascot costumes.
Following a brief introduction featuring "Tyler" rapping the first verse of "Yonkers," the real OFWGKTA leader and Hodgy emerged to run through "Sandwitches." Backed by his menacing carnival-like production, Tyler's asthmatic flow sounded even better here than on Fallon. Hodgy retained his sort of sweet-turned-aggressive energy, which led to Tyler's all-over-the-place antics and crowd surfing. After watching this a few times, I can't help but wonder which TV stage these guys will land on next.
Tyler's Goblin drops May 10.
