Twilight Singers: "Blackbird and the Fox" (f. Ani DiFranco)

There are a precious few figures in indie rock with spectacular batting averages, as far as quality of the bands they've been in goes. One dude in that exclusive club, though, is Greg Dulli. Both Afghan Wings and Twilight Singers consistently provided pretty excellent tunes. That latter group is releasing a new album, as yet untitled, on Sub Pop. The album's first single is "Blackbird and the Fox," which crescendos from its spindly guitar figures into a full blown roar, complete with an excellent blues guitar lead. Folk troubadour Ani DiFranco provides an excellent partner to Dulli's rich baritone. The whole single is under three minutes, but the song's intensity packs as much of an emotional punch as a track thrice its length.
