Of the covers songs making up the track list for the new War Child album, the promise of TV on the Radio doing a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" was the most tantalizing--especially since the band is clearly influenced by his Berlin trilogy, were "discovered" by Bowie (his doorman used to work for the band), and got him to sing back up on "Province."
And the song pretty much delivers how you'd expect--layered production, intertwined vocals of Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, and general sonic murkiness. One thing's for sure--this certainly slays that Wallflowers cover (plus check that super-bouncy bass line thanks to Gerard Smith in the song's latter half).
Pitchfork's got a stream of the song. Go here to have a listen.

This is actually not bad. At least they tried to do something different with it.
