Golden Age (Video)

Average Rating: 5.71

TV On the Radio’s third album Dear Science comes out one week today, and the band has released the first official video for a track from the record. “Golden Age” has already been previewed in audio form, but now the band has added a morph-tastic video to go with the song.

The track features a rare lead vocal from Kyp Malone, and the somewhat Biblical video features all five band members atop a mountain in white cloaks. Occasionally their heads morph into animals and a Village People-esque troupe of dancing policemen (and woman) strut their stuff to the Prince-like ditty. The band members slowly transform into Herculean musclemen as the clip progresses, and end up showering the police with hearts. What does it all mean? Your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps the band members have just had some really positive recent experiences with the NYPD? Full TV on the Radio tour dates listed below.

Love the song. Hate the video. Somewhere in between the Village People and Charlie the Unicorn.

Or perhaps a cross between the Lion King and an Arrested Development Hot Cops routine.

If this is their only good video then the others must really blow!? I was definitely expecting something more engaging/creative.

You all are a bunch of f***ing morons! This is hands-down the greatest video of the year! Do you not have a sense of humor? And it's not their only good video. Check out "Wolf Like Me". Jeez, people! Do you not recognize brilliance when you see it?

Dr. Rock You're either one of the members, someone who promotes the band or maybe your one of those psycho fans that can't live without an artists for some sad self hating reason? Bottom line in my personal opinion as stated earlier. The vid is ok. And if you think it's the greatest video of the year then good for you. I seriously think you should get off their nuts and maybe go outside, read a book or make a friend.

I apologize for being so harsh to the other people who have commented about this video, but it just that there seems to be so many haters on boards and forums. I wish people could be more light-hearted. Bottom line: This video is fun. The director clearly had a vision. I read it's loosely based on the end of the Mayan calendar, Dec. 21, 2012. Instead of the end of the world, it's supposedly just the end of a cycle, so TV On The Radio wants us to party with them into the Golden Age. Pretty cool, huh? Synchronized dancing cops, instruments appearing magically from the heavens, pink glazed donuts, hearts, and rainbows shooting off the chests of the police, and muscle-bound half men/half animal creatures forming some sort of "Voltron"-type god. If that's not engaging and creative, then I don't know what is. I may be a bit of a psycho fan, but here in Austin, TX, my friends and I love to "keep it weird". It makes the world go round. Peace and love, my brother, and sorry if my arrogance offended earlier.
