Merrill Garbus continued her inspirational year with a session for Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW recently. The w h o k i l l album is a strong contender for the top places in the end of the year charts, and she showed how effortlessly its songs translate to the live arena with this version of “Bizness.” Garbus doesn’t often flesh out her live performances with much of a band, but here she’s joined by some horn players and bass accompaniment, as well as her mind boggling collection of loops and that stunning voice. Anyone familiar with the recorded version of “Bizness” will doubtless be delighted to see how it’s progressed here, with the band effectively bending a few new angles out of its already impressive sound.
