Tune-Yards: "Bizness" And "You Yes You" (Live On Kimmel) (Video)
There are few things in music that will brighten your day more than seeing Merrill Garbus and her Tune-Yards playing live. On Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night we got to hear two w h o k i l l tracks taken out into the open, including the standout “Bizness” and “You Yes You.” Much has been made of Garbus’ powerful voice, which is undeniable, but it’s impressive that she never lets that overwhelm her desire for sonic invention, with this set of songs taking numerous compelling twists and turns as she hollers over the top. There’s some advancement on the recorded versions of these songs too, and it’s a joy to watch how Garbus subtly toys with her work and makes sure it’s in an ever-evolving state.
