“Tugboat” (Galaxie 500 cover)

Oh my how time has slipped down the stream. A quarter of a century ago, one of the most influential indie bands, Galaxie 500, released an unassuming single called “Tugboat” from their debut LP, Today. Today, hear the latest rendition of the eighties slowcore classic by a young Welsh noise-punk band, Joanna Gruesome. With help of modern effects pedals, the dissonance is amplified on the Cardiff five-piece’s version, while Alanna’s wistful vocals imbue fragility that Dean Wareham could not with his sour tone.

“Tugboat” cover is the B-side of “Sugarcrush” single releasing on November 18, 2013, from the debut LP, Weird Sister, via Slumberland Records.
