Tortoise's sixth LP, Beacons of Ancestorship, is set to be released on June 23 via Thrill Jockey. In the interim, they have released a video for “Prepare Your Coffin,” which hints that the album may be an upbeat affair. The clip is shot in sharp black-and-white, and follows the furtive activities of a bearded photographer.
The band is still matching prog rock riffs with a few jazzy touches and some Kraftwerkian electronica. Despite the upbeat tone, “Prepare Your Coffin” is instantly recognizable as a Tortoise track, and the band has been following this singular path for more than 15 years now. Do you think the title was inspired by this guy? [Pitchfork]
