Toro y Moi: "New Beat" (Star Slinger Dancehall Mix)
When he was commissioned to remix Toro Y Moi's "New Beat," U.K. producer Star Slinger didn't just want to do what we might have expected by layering in chopped-up soul samples and a thick beat. Instead, he chose to take the track on a trip to the Caribbean with this dancehall mix. In his words: "[D]idn't wanna make a typical soulbeat when i was asked to do this, so made a riddim instead." We're not about to complain about his direction. Even if hearing Toro frontman Chaz Bundick over some vinyl-flipped slaps would have been rad, this is still pretty great.
