Chaz Bundick’s new release under his Toro y Moi guise, Underneath the Pine, is the most compelling manifestation of his plans for the group yet. Subtle flourishes of funk and disco bubble to the surface, and Bundick clearly has songwriting chops that were less apparent on his muddled Causers of This debut. Here, they perform “Light Black” from that new record for Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW, which is built around the kind of slowly building groove that Toro y Moi is able to execute so effectively.
