"U.F.O." is another unspeakably dense slab of doom pop from Torche. It's the lead off track from their upcoming release Songs For Singles, which blasts through eight songs in a concise 21 minutes. The track falls much more in line with their still-excellent 2008 full-length Meanderthal rather than their more experimental contribution to their recent split with Boris. That, of course, means that singer/guitarist Steve Brooks lays down a series of sugar-coated riffs and bathes his melodic vocals in a healthy dose of reverb. The whole thing is over in less than two minutes, allowing the listener to avoid going into diabetic shock due to all of the pop hooks at work here.
Give "U.F.O." a listen over at Stereogum. Songs For Singles is due out Sept. 21 via Hydra Head.
