The much sampled “Genius of Love” was the obvious choice for Tom Tom Club to play on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (Jan. 11), and they duly obliged. Chris Frantz talked to Vulture about the track recently, which is 30 years old this year. “It was a song that was pioneering,” he said. “At the time there was nothing that sounded like it, and frankly, except for the people that have sampled it, there still isn’t.” He’s not wrong, as this giddy performance demonstrates—the song barely sounds like it’s aged a day since its inception back in 1981.
