Alec Baldwin could barely suppress his glee at introducing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on SNL on Saturday (May 15), which tied in with the release of the band's new album, Mojo. Instead of delivering some classic Heartbreakers material, Petty instead focused on two tracks from that new record.
This is the group’s first new release in eight years—perhaps Petty was worn down by the marathon four-hour documentary Peter Bogdanovich released about the band back in 2007? But those filmmaking sessions ultimately didn’t sap the singer’s ability to come up with another set of blues-based hard rock songs, as you can hear from these two tracks.
I haven't seen that documentary yet, but it's high on my list. Anybody watch it?
Not yet, but I'd like to see it. I just need to find a spare four hours of time first.
