Tiny Vipers is the solo project from Jesy Fortino, a singer-songwriter out of Seattle. And to call the stark folk on her new album Life on Earth bare bones might be to give it too much presence. Look no further than this clip of her performing "Dreamer," a standout from that record, to hear just how loud the silence in her songs can get. Playing in a tunnel in San Francisco, filmed by Nate Chen, and backlit by little more than the day creeping in a ways behind her, Fortino fills the black around her with just a few echoed notes and the hurt growl of her voice. Haunting stuff.
Life on Earth is out now on Sub Pop. [Gorilla v. Bear]
can't really imagine a better acoustical setting for that track...
