Rip It Off, the excellent third album by Times New Viking and probably the loudest album of the year, didn't satisfy TNV in terms of 2008 releases. They're releasing an EP called Stay Awake, which shouldn't be all that difficult if you try to go to sleep with TNV playing (I know from experience). Similarly, there's a tinge of irony to the title "Call & Respond." Though the song certainly has a catchy, sing-along quality that will obviously factor into future live performances, the lyrics are virtually inaudible without a lyric sheet, so until the Stay Awake EP comes out October 21, we'll just be muttering along to this track. It's pretty excellent all the same, with finely timed organs and some sweet harmonies behind TNV's shitty trademark production quality. You don't need coffee Wednesday morning. You need Times New Viking.
