T.I.

Whatever You Like (Live on SNL) (Video)

One thing I'll never understand about rappers on SNL is how they always have to have a live band, even if that means the keyboardist is playing two notes 400 times over the course of the song. I'm not sure if T.I. actually tours with a full band, but minus the backing chorus he has here, the performance of "Whatever You Like" would have been fine with just a DJ in the background.

John Malkovich (the star of that movie Being John Cusack, or something) introduces the song, and T.I. continues his hat-barely-on heroics (as posited by Countessian here, he uses double-sided tape). T.I. also did "Swing Your Rag," but NBC has washed that vid off the internets. [Nahright]

It's true, T.I. does not need a band, just a DJ and some blokes who yell stuff. (And then maybe Rihanna and Kanye West for good measure, but they're probably optional.)

the band is what made this performance! Otherwise all of T.I.'s songs sound exactly alike. This made me ALMOST want to buy his album. He needs to put out a whole album with this band. Does anybody know who they are?

The Movie is "Being John Malkovich" and it stars John Cusack, not the other way around.

Having a live band improves the overall sound of most tracks. To say that a rapper just flowing over a track is better is pure nonsense and shows one of the faults of modern contemporary mainstream music and it's fans

T.I. with a D.J. would have been very boring. The live band brings the music to life. A D.J. pressing a button may be cool to some people, but I think live bands are what it's all about. You're talking like a crazy person Andrew.
