The xx have shown that they enjoy a good remix, whether it be giving one, like Jamie XX's take on Florence and the Machine's "You've Got the Love," or receiving one, like this example. Here, Los Angeles producer Nosaj Thing takes on "Islands," one of the more immediate songs on the group's excellent debut, and makes it sound like it's coming from somewhere inside a Burial song, with echoed finger snaps and chopping percussive sounds, while still maintaining the dark sensuality at the song's core. It's rare that a remix does something more than reinterpret the original, but Nosaj's look at "Islands" my actually beat The xx at their own game. You can check that out, as well as a Nosaj take on Radiohead's "Reckoner," here. [Stereogum]
