The xx may have sucked up an amazing array of critical acclaim last year after the release of their eponymous debut album, but they’re still not done promoting it. The band, now slimmed down to a three-piece, has come back to these shores for their umpeenth North American tour, and showed up on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night to play “Crystalised.”
This might be one of the most inappropriate settings for this music, with the band flanked by Bud Light signs and playing to an audience who don’t seem to know how to react to their music. But I saw them play in the Apple Store in Soho last year, which was similarly odd and incompatible with their doomed romanticism, so clearly this is a band who will play just about anywhere.
