The Weeknd: "What You Need (Live)" (Video)

I think that if the above video, should it truly be the young turks behind mysterious R&B group the Weeknd, proves anything, it's the gobsmacking speed at which the Internet hype machine operates. "What You Need" has (rightfully) become one of the most talked about singles of the young year, but here it looks like it's being played (and ignored) at a lame high school dance. It's actually the University of Toronto, which I can't decide is better or worse. The room is also appropriately darkened because there's no way we are ready to find out who these guys actually are yet. Sarcasm aside, it's a pretty faithful live performance that only serves to hammer home how talented a singer Abel Tesfaye is and, more to the point, how good this song is. Check it out. [Pitchfork]
