The news that The Weeknd and Drake would be collaborating certainly wasn’t the most surprising news in the world (they are fellow Torontonians after all) - so I guess the fact that Abel “Weeknd” Tesfaye and Drizzy have a prior relationship only makes sense. Complex points to a demo penned by Tesfaye, then a part of production duo The Noise, called “Birthday Suit,” which was originally intended for Drake. As it stands it’s a fairly flavorless R&B sex-jam, far below the best work of either involved parties - it is a demo after all. But it’s still worth a listen, if only for archaeology’s sake, and proof that we all gotta start somewhere.
