The War on Drugs won over plenty of new friends with last year’s Slave Ambient, but it’s still a huge leap to see the Philly band suddenly exposed on national television. That’s what happened last night, with a version of “Come to the City” delivered on David Letterman’s show, significantly raising the War on Drugs’ profile once again. This builds up from the kind of solid block-out-the-world groove this band is so adept at producing, where it feels like an unstoppable force has been set in motion. And hey, check out Paul Shaffer getting in on the action to the left of your screen.
